White privilege

White privilege: inherent advantages possessed by a white person based on their race in a society characterized by racial inequality and injustice.

This term, with the hint of original sin that it possesses, yet before we get a bus-full of apologies from Jan, Piet and Jaco, we need to understand that policies such as Group Areas Act, Bantu Education Act, Pass Laws and other apartheid law, were unjust. We've all heard the analogy of the racial race. The question is posed as such: when people are in a race and the white man is given a 400-year head start, how could we claim that political democracy could possibly reverse that? Now, our rebuttal as YEDIBE would be to break the rule and answer a question with a question of our own. What do you suggest we do, so-called “black progressive”? Should we stop the white runner from running the race? Should we tell the white runner to go back and start on equal footing with the black runner? The short answer is no. The long answer is “no, what are you thinking, Floyd Shivambu?”

The second question to pose is whether the analogy is even true. If it is, then shouldn't we have a finish line? Are we racing to economic freedom? If the answer to that question is yes, then we should ask: what is economic freedom? Is it freedom from the necessity of work, as Karl Marx suggested, or the traditional meaning of the word, which is the agency of people to make economic decisions—a pillar of the free market and private property? We create cultures for values and privilege to accrue benefits and give a sense of belonging otherwise why bother creating a culture that doesn't accrue benefits to it's members?

Fair enough, you may argue that this culture accrues fewer benefits those outside the culture but that should not be ignorantly reduced to Race. What should also be noted is that apartheid did not make white people as rich as possible, but it opened the wealth gap between black people and white people. The more freedom you give people, the better they do.

Conclusion
If anything is to be donated from this is that apartheid should not be conflated with whiteness.
